The continued success of MERLO became possible through the dedication and perseverance of the founder and chairperson, Mr. Jose H. Mercado, in collaboration with his wife, Ms. Ligaya L. Mercado. The name MERLO was coined from the first syllables of the family name of the founder (MERcado) and the maiden name of his wife (LOpez). MERLO was established in 1974 as a distributor of veterinary products when intensive swine and poultry farming were setting in the Luzon area. Eventually, the Company emerged as a leading distributor of veterinary products acclaiming the trust and confidence of local and multinational companies who ventured business with the Company. In 1992, Merlo Agric-Vet Corporation was established to intensify the company’s nationwide veterinary product distribution. The immediate thrust was to expand the territory of coverage, increase the specie of animals being catered to, and to carry products that give value to customers at better margins. MERLO has expanded, and will continue to expand, its present coverage as follows: Southern Luzon Area, which includes Batangas, Laguna, Quezon, Cavite, Rizal and Mindoro, and Vismin Area which includes Cagayan De Oro, Cebu, Davao and General Santos.
